After doing a lot of artist research I thought it would be helpful to just begin drawing and enjoy myself rather than dwell on what I was going to do to get the first semester going.

I enjoy drawing, connecting shapes and experimenting with colours just as did in second year so That is how I started, I also found the cell-like biological drawings from Joan Miro influenced me and inspired me greatly so I began experimenting with these forms and I really liked how they turned out, some initial drawings are shown below. Another inspiration I was given to look at in my first tutorial was Imi Knoebel, a lot of his work is using collages and cut outs of brightly coloured paper and I figured this technique would work well with the simple shapes I use.

Below shows an example of Imi Knoebel's collage work - GartenBild 15 (2008)

I really think that after seeing a plethora of his work, I could definitely see potential in experimenting with collage and cut outs, I really enjoy how the negative space is used after layering the paper, the layering certainly draws the eye to look at the whole piece.
