"Even on its side I constantly recognised objects and the fine blooms of dusk was missing. Now I could see clearly that objects harmed my pictures" (1890)

This quote by Kandinsky was also found in the book 'Paths to Abstraction 1867-1917'. I found it important to my work as I was investigating into the past of abstraction and how it was started. I really connected with the quote because I have always found difficulty in studying a subject and placing it into my paintings however shapes and colour are a lot more important to me.

Kandinsky is one of my favourite inspirations and was a founder of abstraction; presenting his first abstract watercolour in 1920.

Objects definitely can harm pictures in terms of my work I find it fascinating this is how Kandinsky found his forte through progression of painting. "even on its side" a lot of abstract paintings can be turned threefold and It will still look appealing however if you turned a painting of a vase upside down It will be a completely different story.
