After experimenting with small drawings I began painting a large canvas with a deep blue background (28th Sept) and decided since I had so much fun being so expressive with my last green canvas in second year; I would begin the same with this blue canvas, a good start to show my progress but not too precious to ruin it. I began drawing shapes all over in white pencil, It made the canvas look most like a blue print for the construction of an airplane, I wanted to make the canvas very busy and colourful, so the viewers eye was stuck for where to gaze first.
I used pastel colours as well as bright primary colours which came from the inspiration of 80's geometric abstraction and 80's fashion, I wanted it to look messy yet uniform. Below shows the progress of my first piece which took around 2 and a bit weeks to complete, am glad I experimented with a dark blue background as it makes the colours stand out a lot however I had to put almost 3 coats of thick acrylic on some shapes.

I had a lot of fun blending the colours rather than trying to keep to one flat colour, for example if red got onto my orange paint on my paintbrush I was rather pleased at the effect it gave; I wasn't too worried about the end result which was calming and made it easier to work with.
I did however still use masking tape to keep straight edges to keep a uniform composition while it still seemed very messy and expressive.
