Susan Philipsz was exhibiting at the Baltic so I decided to go and have a look before venturing over the bridge into Newcastle.
Although it was the first level exhibiting space which caught my eye; Susan Philipsz works with sound and sculpture, her interest in emotive and psychological properties in sound influenced her piece of work which consisted of a large screen showing a woman and a violin, with different speakers all around the vast room came different notes, although I don't have much interest in audio presentational art It was interesting to see how you felt whilst standing next different notes.
The first level space was exhibiting various upcoming modern artists, my favourite piece was 'Mapping' by Neil Carroll, a large wooden board with mixed media and expressive paint work on a Wooden frame, a symmetrical piece with interesting patterns. I love the pale colours, each piece of material and each shape of material reminded me a lot of Constructivism mixed with Jackson Pollock. (Image below)

Another piece which caught my eye was 'I abandoned reason and found this' (2016) by Sofia Caselli.
Using oil and photograph on canvas I loved the way she uses very minimal shapes and colour to create a very interesting piece of work, It reminded me of the work I had been looking at by Joan Miro.
Cellular like shapes and random composition. (image below)
